The “Secret” Healthy
Paleo Diet
5 million years in the making
The food modern man eats is killing us.
We pay a greater and greater price for the poisons that feed us every day.
Our Ancestors ate food that was available and abundant but they didn’t die of obesity-related illnesses. That didn’t start to happen until we as people, settled down and started farming some 10,000 years in the past. It seems like a long time ago.
Learning again to eat wisely. The Paleo Man didn’t have the problems the modern man is facing. His greatest threat to survival was starvation. He learned what it took to eat to survive. And survive he did, for over 5 million years.
The combinationof his survival skills, the available foods, and time created what is now the modern man. With a large supply of of agriculturally available grains and commercially concentrated sugars came nutritional starvation and our bodies compensated by adding fat. A greater store of fat not only meant a greater source of energy but also a larger store of nutrients for times when the right foods were not available. That greater store of fat, is what is killing us.
Avoid the the costsof modern diets while gaining the benefits of 5 million years of evolution. Does the Paleo diet sound like the Atkins Diet®, the South-Beach Diet®, or Weight Watchers®? The basis for these diets are the same as the Paleo diet. The biggest difference between any of them is that they all have their own approaches to “The foods we eat are killing us” concept and they all have their own approach to something the paleo man knew instinctively.
It’s not just what we eat, but how we eat it, and how much exercise we get after we eat. If it drops the weight but robs the body of vital nutrients or avoids the issue of necessary exercise, it is not sustainable. What is needed for sustained nutrition is a new way to eat and a different view of exercise… New to us as modern human beings but not to our bodies, or the Paleo man. We will start with the diet. This new way is the “old” way… What was old is new again. What is the solution?
The solution is the Paleo Diet. High protein and fiber, mixed with natural fats, an assortment of fruits, nuts, berries, and root vegetables, and LOW (not no) carbohydrates, IE: low gluten as from getting away from refined grains and concentrated sugars to avoid high glycemic indexed foods, no pesticides and low dairy intake makes the Paleo diet a natural to go along with our 5 million old genetics.
Be a Paleo Man. No one wants to advocate a total reversion to the same diet that sustained mankind for so many years. After all, our lifespans have increased, not as a direct result of what we eat but as a function of being more knowledgeable about what it takes to be healthy. Therefore, we should all use a little commonsense when we eat. Not all dairy or processed foods are going to harm us. A few add vital nutrients that our ancestors sorely lacked. What we can do is use the wisdom of listening to our bodies and eat accordingly. Just don’t overdo the modern habits that are killing us.
A Paleo diet doesn’t have to be bland. It doesn’t have to be boring. And it’s upsides are that it dovetails nicely to the diet of diabetics, weight watchers, dieters, and health fanatics… And just about everyone else. Who knew that a ancient diet could have so much in common with the modern man.
